Harder Residence - Langley, BC
The design brief for this established residence in the Forest Knolls area of Langley calls for the internal renovation and extension of the 1,680 sq ft existing home. The design reorganizes the main living components in a functional way that includes the relocation of the kitchen, dining, and living areas into a more consolidated, open-plan layout, as well as a new outdoor patio addition to the north. The striking feature of the project is the addition of a new three-storey, 2,800 sq ft garage and studio apartment, clad in natural timber. Attached to this wing is a glazed staircase that rises from the lower garage level, creating a light-filled gallery area that connects back to the existing house with a floating glass and steel bridge structure.
